What does the term "Rights" Mean ?
According to the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy (2020), "Rights are entitlements (not) to perform certain actions, or (not) to be in certain states; or entitlements that others (not) perform certain actions or (not) be in certain states."
What are the Rights of Jamaican Citizens?
According to the National Library of Jamaica (n.d.), the following are rights of Jamaican citizens:
- Protection of right to life
- Protection from arbitrary arrest
- Respect for private and family life
- Protection for privacy of home and property
- Protection of freedom of conscience
- Protection of peaceful assembly
- Protection from discrimination
- Protection of the expression
- Rights to fair trial
- Right to vote
- Freedom of worship
- Freedom of movement
What does the term "Responsibility" mean?
What are the Responsibilities of Jamaican Citizens?
- Pay his/her share of tax that is levied for the good of the community;
- Obey the laws of the land
- Serve as a witness in the court if summoned
- Serving on a jury if called

Some examples of humans rights are the right to life and the right to vote. They are important because without human rights being respected, no rights will be adhered to.
ReplyDelete1. Human rights are the basic rights and freedoms that are entitled to every individual, simply by virtue of being human. These rights are inherent to all human beings, regardless of their nationality, race, gender, age, religion, or any other status.
ReplyDelete2. The right to life: Everyone has the right to live and to be protected from arbitrary killing or violence.
The right to freedom of expression: Everyone has the right to express their opinions and ideas, and to receive and impart information and ideas freely.
3. Empowerment: Human rights empower individuals to exercise their freedoms and pursue their own goals and aspirations, without fear of retribution or oppression. This is essential for fostering creativity, innovation, and personal growth.
