The Rights and Responsibilities of Jamaican Citizens

 



Who is a Citizen? 

The Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy (2017) defines the word citizen as "a member of a political community (country) who enjoys the rights and assumes the duties of membership." Hence, the two major ways to become a citizen of a country include by birth and marriage. 


Proof of Citizenship Documents

  • Birth Certificates 



  • Passports 

  • National Identification Card 

What is  the Jamaican Charter of Fundamental Rights and 

Freedoms?

  
This is an act created in 2011 to include rights that citizens are governed by and entitled to as Jamaicans.

ASSIGNMENT 

Read Chapter 3 of the Charter of Rights and note at least 5 rights that are provided for Jamaican  citizens in the  Charter of Rights.
